OLR Organic loading rate
However, high rate wastewater treatment sys tems are designed and operated to separate HRT from SRT by encouraging greater biomass retention (see Chapter 2), and thereby ensuring that SRT is always longer than HRT. 1.2.3.7 Organic Loading Rate The organic loading rate (OLR) describes the relationship between the treat ment rate of the organic matter and the size of the treatment system or reac tor.
The higher the OLR a system can prop erly treat, the greater the cost-effectiveness of the system.
